Fellow PHers, I've bit the bullit and bought a new Dell laptop running Windows 10.

All good so far, SSD, does all I want it to, but cannot get it to set up my Emails.

I've tried using Windows 10 mail, the most successful so far in that it will set up my two accounts, and will receive and notify me of incoming mail. But refuses point blank to send anything to anyone. I've checked the settings against the settings on my phone, and they are identical (I can send and receive fine on my phone). It would appear that Windows 10 has an issue with my Email security certificates (livemail.co.uk) and is classing everything I send as spam.

Outlook is refusing to set up the emails at all and even using another email client (Thunderbird) is only yielding the same results as above, receive but cannot send.

I'm at my wits end and have actively considered reversing the car over the laptop. Although I realise this too will not fix the problem and I risk a puncture.

Any suggestions? I've removed the McAfee stuff that the laptop came with, because I hate the intrusive nature of preinstalled antivirus.

Apologies if you have tried this:

https://www.serversettings.email/livemail.co.uk-em...

Before that though, check the date/time of the Windows 10 PC.

If it isn't the correct(ish?) time and most importantly the correct date, you can get all sorts of certificate errors from Windows 10.

I set up my gmail and another email on outlook 6 months ago. It would receive email, send the test email fine but not send anything else.

I think it was something silly like the emails weren't plain text but I messed around so much I'm not sure. Plain text, rich text, and html all seem to work now...

The two factor authentication bypass seems to have stopped working so I mostly gave up using it and just use my phone or Chrome.

Is the outgoing SMTP port set to 587 and not 25?

Random thought - should they be identical? Is the Livemail account an Exchange mailbox - it should find all the settings itself.

I've got a ton of different email accounts on my Windows 10 Thinkpad - some on Thunderbird, some on the bulit-in mail client and two work ones on Outlook. Touch wood, all work fine. The old BT ones occasionally have server errors, but I don't use them for anything that matters and next day they'll work fine.

Sorted! It only took my wife an hour and a half, but it's all set up on Outlook 365.

Why does Windows 10 insist on everything going via a Microsoft app? If you try something else, "what do you want to use that for? Obviously our app is better, so we'll use that instead....what do you mean, no?"
