I’ve got an F15 X5 and noticed water ingress through the driver side sunvisor. A main dealer has confirmed that the rubber drainage channel needs to be replaced but that water has also gone down the A pillar and soaked the carpets etc. They are quoting £1200 to do this and need the car for a week! The part is £5!

Of course, although I have the extended BMW warranty, they don't cover water ingress.

Has anyone had something similar? Surely replacing the rubber tube will suffice and the rest will just dry out? Why remove all the carpets and seats??

There could be various stuff under the seats and carpets, where you won’t want standing water.

I don’t know where BMW keep their modules, but I’ve worked on vehicles where the Audio Amp, Infotainment module, camera module etc, are all under seat.

I’ve also worked on vehicles where the ground points sit strategically in the place where water would sit. Years of enjoyment will follow once they start corroding smile

Even with that in mind, I’m surprised they haven’t just gone for the ‘Heating the hell out of it’ option. With a warning to the punter that further problems may arise. Then let the customer decide.

Get a dehumidifier in there, whack it on full, and it’ll be dry in 24hrs.

I’m assuming the pipe is blocked?

Replacing the pipe won’t stop it happening again though.

Does your sunroof get used a lot? Do the drain openings at the sunroof end look gunky?
Park under trees?

I’d have a bash DIY first, after all if you damage a pipe or pop it off etc, it’s still the same price at BMW any way.

Thanks. They will do the pipe but I’m not paying them £900 to dry it out. Will go the dehumidifier route and silica bags!!
