Always wanted 933 love the look & sound but also the M3 appeals. What do you think??
Thinking of resale,fun,cost,practibilty,comfort,PERFORMANCE?

A couple of guys on www.porschaforum.com have M3s - might be worth talking to them.

Good luck!

Yes, had one, SMG Cab, hated it, was totally awful.
Terrible jerky shifts unacceptable in a car costing over 50k and the scuttle shake was very bad too.
Was glad to go back to a Porsche,...still you pays ya money........
Dare say the coupe will be stiffer but I couldnt live with the shifts. Happy hunting.

I have just got an SMG M3 (following an SL55 AMG and 996 C4S) and it is a fantastic car. I have an order placed for an M5 but may keep the M3 as it is so good.

You do have to take a couple of weeks to master the SMG system but once you do it's terrific.

It has similar performance to the C4S with more practicality.

Go for it.

I've had two E46 M3 (manual and SMG) and I'd have to say as a 'family' car it's unbeatable, plenty of room and practicality, definitely more so than my current 996 C4S.

With respect to the SMG, yes it is jerky.....if you treat it like an automatic, which it most definitely isn't. You have to lift off as you would with a manual in order to 'feather' the change. In the Auto modes SMG is quite poor, having said that I never used them. In the Manual modes it really comes into it's own, I never used anything other than Drivelogic modes 5 and 6.

Yes, it was DoctorD's CSL in Evo.

If you are interested in anymore information on the M3, visit www.bm3w.co.uk, there's a massive amount of info you can find there.

I've had two M3s over the past couple of years. Both of mine have been manual gearbox cars. I drove an SMG, and didn't really like it, however, this is just personal preference, as I have mates with M3s who swear by it.

Overall, it is one hell of a package. Very quick, sharp handling, well equipped, and totally practical. IMO, it doesn't have the presence of a Porsche, but overall, it's a great car.

I'd definitely say "go for it".

I've actually not driven one. I had a 996C4 a couple of years ago, and am just about to P/Ex my current M3 for a 996TT.

E46 M3, capable & fast, lost of room for 5 rugby players, bit souless, very easy to drive quickly, engine note sounds good inside- but gay from outside, major componants have proved fragile, quite clinical- if the car was music it would be modern synthasized euro pop.

993, capable & fast, room for 2 adults & 2 midgits, as much soul as james brown, needs learning to drive really quickly (2wd) sounds ace in & outside- sports exhaust & airbox make it even better) componants built of granite, if it were music it would be motown.

Is the better 993 4 wheel drive or 2?? is the power used up driving 4wheels (so less performance?)
