I bought my son a Lenovo C330 recently and it's brilliant, so I went to buy one for myself today. They are sold out in that spec.of course!

So I am looking for a 12ish inch Chromebook that I can buy from the high street over the weekend. Budget around £350. Can anyone suggest a good one please?

I want light, long battery life, robust.

I appreciate it's a dull question, sorry. I just haven't time to research them.

Ive had a Acer CHromebook 15 for the last 4 or so years. Use it everyday for all sorts.
Still as fresh as the day I got it.

So id recommend an Acer of some sort.

John Lewis? Much better warranty and customer service than elsewhere, I assume. Appears to be in stock in a few locations, north and south.

My dad has a HP Chromebook which I'm really impressed with - if I need a laptop I'll be buying one of those next!
His has an Intel CPU which performs well - not sure if the AMD equivalent is noticeably different. It's 15" so no good for you - think they do a smaller one though!

I've bought one of these, rightly or wrongly, because they were about half price at PC World and I like the colour.

Tell me I've done wrong.

It's a pretty low powered machine, I have a 9 year old laptop that's twice as powerful as that one.

I've never used a Chromebook, do they run well on modest hardware? How have you found it OP?

Yeh they do. When they first came out they had 2gb ram, I would say minimum these days is 4gb but found they need 6gb to work at there best.

My ChromeOS desktop has 8gb installed now so has decent headroom.

I am under no illusions that I won't be getting anything awesome for under £180. However it's an experiment and I don't want to spaff a lot of money on it.

How is the desktop machine?

Had it about 4 years now, only upgrade I've done is the 8gb from 2gb and its fine gets used most days for surfing etc.

I had an Acer C720 as well Chromebook but smashed the screen on it, replaced it with a 2010 MBP (got offered cheap) and since replaced that with a Dell XPS 13 Ubuntu.
