Apologies if this has been posted already, but another car is floating about on Facebook waiting to be identified.

Snapped in Australia apparently and a number plate search shows it registered as a SIMCA which seems highly improbable even as a base for a kit car. Trying very hard to look like a Daytona, it looks too professional for a one off.

Anybody recognise it?

Doesn't look like any Simca I know of.
A pic from the front would have been more use.

I wondered if it was maybe a rare evolution of the Abarth-Simca

Toyota 3000GT ish, isn’t it.
But I was thinking it looked somewhat Mazda-ry. A little bit like an RX4

...but it's obviously not.

That's what I thought, but the rear lights and the shape of the tail sculpture isn't right. I still think it's very Japanese-looking.

Rear three-quarter window looks like a (Mitsubishi) Colt Celeste.

But they are definitely RA24 Celica rear lights.

I've turned to fellow members of Autopuzzles and it's solved.

It's a one-off homebuilt by someone with the initials GAL. They're on the bonnet too. Built in Adelaide from Simca parts (hence the Simca name on the official records) and was styled to look like a Daytona. The car was a bit underpowered I reckon, because the engine and gearbox are now from a Mitsubishi Sigma.

All this is from Roger Wright, who was a friend of the builder.

That's very nicely done indeed. Would be nice to see some more shots of it.

I spent a few minutes comparing an Abarth Simca with the OP car too.

One thing you need to realise is the Abarth is much older than many think ,being from the first half of the 1960s.

Thanks, some great car detective work! Unless the front is a total mess that’s one of the best home built specials I’ve seen.
