When the IC cars moved on to the EV section. Newly installed PodPoint station in a market town's Tesco where vandalism is usually at a low level.

The vandals had already smashed the screen on the charger control too. mad

There is a large section of knuckle draggers who see EVs as an attack on there gawd given right to drive V8s

In the UK it’s more likely just to be third generation chav scum who vandalise stuff for fun

As for the parking there is a huge amount of entitled selfish s on the UK roads which unfortunately is why we have to have private parking enforcement

This! near me they're a bright becon in the middle of a cold dark Tesco carpark opposite a big council estate of middle classness. I'd guess it's only a matter of time to when vandles ruin it.

Over here in the Cotswold's a large Tesco's have put in four charge points in a prime car park location and in the three weeks or so they've been there I've yet to see an ICE car taking the spot. Quite impressed with that!

I haven't looked closely but I doubt that there's a rapid CHADeMO source on offer, so what with the two hour maximum stay in Tesco's car park, the amount of charging that can be done is limited - free of charge or not. (pun accidental)

I think you need to change your mindset. Don't treat topping up an EV while shopping in the same way as filling up an ICE car.

Whose gonna spend 2 hours shopping in Tesco ?!
If you do though 2 hours charging is enough for 60-80 miles.

My Leaf has only the basic charger so won't do 60-80 miles on a two hour charge, but it is free-to-use at the moment so one takes one's coulombs where one can! (For the avoidance of doubt, I am not a penny-pinching old git as I haven't got a type 1 to type 2 adapter lead anyway!)

The car park allows Tesco customers two hours parking and many buy their Tesco shop then wander off into town to plunder the charity shops. As with many small towns it's charity shops, estate agents, barber/hair dressers, coffee shops, Indian restaurants, and not much else.

The thing about "top up" charging is that it works for short distance driving.

Some one said "my leaf won't get 60 miles charging in 2 hours" but realistically, who is driving 60 miles to the super market? My supermarket is 6 miles each way (12mile round trip), so that trip uses about 3 kWh, which is an hours charge on a 3kW slow charger, so practically, i can do the weekly shop and basically be charge neutral for that driving task.

That's about the size of it. If I had a type 1 to type 2 cable (necessary in most public chargers for a Leaf earlier than c.2019) then I'd top mine up F.O.C. and get a privileged parking spot into the bargain. If they charged more than 15p/kWh however, I'd charge at home.

If there are special parking spaces with chargers for use only by electric cars then it only seems fair that all the normal spaces without chargers shall be for use exclusively by petrol and diesel cars.

Surely dedicating 2 or 3 spaces specifically for ICE would be fair? I'd not have an issue with that, especially if those spaces had dedicated petrol pumps.

Otherwise you comment makes no sense at all.

Perhaps the location of your space in the carpark should relate to the amount of money you spend in the shop each week then?
