Hello.

I am not particulary up with the many different aspects of TVR's. As much as I aspire to own one!

I just have a quick question, that I would be pleased if somebody could help:

Q) with reference to the cerbera, what engines were put in these cars during the time they were manufactured? I keep reading of "AJP V8's" did they also use the S6 in this car aswell?!

They did a 4.2 and 4.5 V8. This is TVR's own in house V8 known as the AJP8. In '99 or '00 they also introduced the Speed6 engine in its 4.0 guise.

the cerbera engine line up is a lot less confusing than the RV8 line up used in chims / griffs etc

essentially I believe its:

high compression, fragile block, noisy cam 4.2
high compression, strong block, noisy cam 4.2
low compression, quiet cam 4.2
high compression, quiet cam 4.5
low compression quiet cam 4.5
high compression, quiet cam, ported heads 4.5 red rose
4 litre SP6 (some later Tuscan red rose converted at rebuild time)

Interesting Joolz, any way of telling which is the fragile and which is strong with the 4.2's?

Albeit mine's got more than 64k on it now so I am hoping that's a good sign!

Ohhhh, that's interesting, how do you tell the difference between the fragile and strong blocks Jules, as I'm pretty certain that I have the 'noisy cams'.

Thanks

Where does the 4.5GT lie in the list of engines?

the fragile blocks were the very first 4.2s from late 95/early 96. the company responsible for casting the blocks was changed around that point i think.

the 4.5 high compression was essentially the gt version Ben .. after 97 the compressions were lowered, the timing retarded and the cars generally made a shadow of their former selves. But you can use 95ron safely, so every cloud etc ..

edited to add : the most fragile engines are generally the ones with big holes in the sides of them, the early cranks used to let go at high revs also.

i have my office TV set resting on an early block .. you can see daylight through it from one side to the other

That is the stuff of nightmares!!

So Joolz, I know TVR have never been much cop at consecutive numbering but do you know the engine numbers of 'early' cars?

Thanks
