Low mileage Volvo C30 D5
Discussion
After the failure of the E39 shed project, i was back in the trusty S60 shed. Its performed perfectly over the last 2 years, but knocks from the suspension, and the nursing of the clutch i have been after something a little newer and a hatchback to be more practical with the incoming new puppy. I looked at Mini R53, Type R, A3's and even Mini Clubmans but not seen anything I liked. Been keeping an eye on C30's and wanted a T5 but this popped up locally on Friday.
Its a 2007 SE Sport D5 with a total of 15k miles on the clock. The car was owned by an elderly gentlement in Cornwall from new who used the car for local trips and a few visits to family in Hampshire. After 10 years it was passed to his son who did about 5k in the last 6months before he unexpectedly passed away this year. Due to probate the car's paperwork was finally sorted last month and put up for sale.
The car has been serviced every year by Volvo, and last year had a cambelt changed by Volvo. Overall the car is in mint condition after being garaged every night, so the interior and exterior is spotless. Only issue I can see are the two front wheels have been kerbed, but its not the end of the world. These Volvo's are spec dependent, and this one has most of the main things i need (cruise, climate).
I do have a concern on the DPF with the low miles, but driving it today showed no issues. Pulls well, auto changes smoothly, and no warning lights on the dash. Paid strong money for the car, but its been so well looked after I think I got a bargain.
Only one photo below, but will get some more when I pick up the car tomorrow.

What happened re the E39 pal?
On further inspection it was gonna need more work then I wanted to do. Undiagnosed suspension knocks and bangs, several oil leaks, needed 4 new tyres, gear stick linkage was sloppy and needed a full service and maybe new MAF sensor.Put on gumtree and some young lads picked it up the next day. They wanted a base car to modify. Was a shame but I couldnt put the time into it.
Few pics from picking the car up yesterday. First time driving a D5 and surprised how good it sounds for a diesel and feels very torquey. Commute on the motorway this morning and very comfy with cruise on. Going to start to see how much MPG i can get out of it over the next few weeks.

Looks nice. Always liked the C30, reckon the pre-facelift is the nicer shape.
Any plans for it? Respond well to a remap.
Cheers. I did have an initially look at a remap, but it seems the people everyone recommended Shark are no longer trading? Any plans for it? Respond well to a remap.

Sold my C30 this year after three really trouble free years and 60k .
Re-map was a great purchase and got me just over 200bhp from the 2.0td - mpgs was always around 42 which was fairly decent.
Good to hear on the reliability. Who did the remap on yours? Did you get improved performance and mpg? Re-map was a great purchase and got me just over 200bhp from the 2.0td - mpgs was always around 42 which was fairly decent.

Have same but in Blue. Bought as needed a car quickly and it appeared locally, was an amusingly left field choice and had a good history.
Has been trouble free for the last 3 years and 30k miles. Very capable. Will do 50+mpg on a run.
Now on 205k miles !
Initially looked at another Mini but this came up locally, and heard good things about the D5 engines. Enjoying it so far, and it does seems pretty quick considering its an automatic diesel. Has been trouble free for the last 3 years and 30k miles. Very capable. Will do 50+mpg on a run.

had 2 variants of the D5 in a 185bhp S60 and a 215bhp XC60 and its never given me any grief.
cheap tuning box on the 185bhp S60 delivered 216bhp from memory but it did tend to fill its particulate filter when driven locally but that's certainly more to do with the cheap box than the car/engine

Got a C30 1.6D Drive E about 1 year ago.

Only had 33,000 miles on it, I have now done about 52,000, and needed the diesel mpg as I do about 14,000 commuting.
After a month I had a Tuning Box fitted ( Blue Spark near Durham ), it had 109BHP but now has about 138BHP.
Main reason for the 'remap' was my commute is motorway/A roads and the extra torque is welcome.
My previous car was a 190BHP Alfa 156 so I guess I missed the extra power !
Good thing is the road tax on the C30 is a lot lower than the 2005 Alfa.
Mine is the R-design, so has factory sports lower suspension, and interior is half leather/blue dials/carbon look finishes etc.
I am very pleased with the C30, and quite envious of your D5 actually !
Although I do prefer the facelift version....but then I am biased anyway !
Mine benefitted from a good 4 wheel alignment, even though it was low mileage when i bought it, all 4 wheels were out !
It now handles as well, if not better than, my much missed Alfa 156 1.9JTDM 150.
One of the things I like about the C30 is that there are so few of them about!

6 months after the initial purchase I thought I would use lock down to give the car a quick service. I have only done 2500 miles since I bought the car in November, mainly due to changing to WFH more and then we went into lock down.
The car actually hadn't been serviced since 2018, but had only covered 6k in that time period. I did the usual Oil/Pollen/Air Filters which where worse than I expected, and the oil was pretty grim. Like most Volvo's everything was easy to work on, apart from the pollen filter. Its right behind the center dash, and its advised if you take out the glovebox its a little easier to access.

Over the past week we have been advised that we wont be going back to the office anytime soon, and by the time that we do our new office will have been opened and my commute will be 5mins down the road. With that in mind I think the C30 will be up for sale soon. Shame, but I do not need a diesel and it seems a waste have it sitting on my drive.

After a short term affair the C30 went off to its new home this morning. Change in circumstances meant I will be WFH for the foreseeable future, and even when we get back to office my commute will drop from 20miles to 3miles.
As such made no sense to keep a diesel and use it occasionally to pop to the shops.
On to the next project.
