Smoke Coming From The Heater Vents
Discussion
My problem was with the blower motor on top of the engine. It is part no. 965 624 151 00 and in 1993 it cost £130.50 + 17.5% VAT! It is item 1 on illustration 108-10 on the Porsche on line parts catalogue described as "Additional blower- blower". I see that Design 911 sell them for £129 (OEM) or £694.68 (Porsche). It fits a few generations of air-cooled cars.
There are also blower motors in both footwells in a 3.2 I think so they could also fail. If it is the one at the back I imagine that the smoke will come out evenly across the vents, if a footwell blower it will be to one side I suppose.
You will need to check if the motors are working as it is also possible to get exhaust smoke in the system through the heat exchangers. You would know the difference in the smell!
