I'm looking for a fun winter roundabout, and something to run along my M2 CS when it finally arrives. With my £3k I have narrowed it down to 2 cars
1. 2005 ep3 civic type r - well cared for no rust, new tyres, clutch in past year, valve clearances checked- a genuine car at £2550
2. 2013 208 gti - car is cat s due to vandalism - dents in the roof. car is well repaired with 61k miles and fsh. it needs new front tyres and there is note of a minor leak on the exhaust as an advisory on the MOT. the seller bought it and fixed it to sell, and again seems genuine, car is £2900

my total mileage is about 15k per year, I know the type r will be less economical, but the 208 will potentially cost more to keep on the road. Advice on either car would be appreciated

If you are getting a proper car, I’d keep my runabout simple and dull.

Both those options sound like a headache in the making.
One’s 14 years old and the other has had an interesting life to say the least.

see I'm swaying towards the 208, it's a bit more civilised, and the engine should be pretty robust - but theres an attraction to the type r that I cant shake

Even if the Peugeot didn't have a colourful history, I'd still say the Civic. They're so good you'll probably want to use it all year round.

I'd go for the 208 with a view of keeping it until it drops.
