In the good old days, a 3G connection allowed you to access the Internet from your phone. Then 4G came along and it was suddenly faster.

Why is it then that when I can only access 3G, even with a strong signal, I can’t get online?

Data network settings in your phone are probably wrong.

Which phone, which network?

Thanks. It was all correctly configured when I checked. 4g works fine, it’s just 3G that seems not to work

My theory is they slow down older systems when a new product comes out to push people onto a faster data plan.

funny how 3g use to be ok then 4g came along, suddenly 3g went very slow. Now with 5g rearing its head 4g seems pitiful.

I'm on Three mobile and i've noticed a drastic reduction is speeds lately.

More often than not in central london on O2 I find the 3G signal to be faster and more reliable than 4G. Frequently I appear to have a 4G signal but it simply doesn't work and I have to switch to 3G.

I have also noticed this. When I only have a 3G signal I don't bother with it. My iPhone 6S is slower on 3G than my old iPhone 4 on 3G.
