PAL/SECAM (Nothing to do with cars - sorry?)

Does anyone know if a plasm TV (PAL) bought in the UK will work in France (SECAM) with Sky dish?:confused:

Assuming that you have a UK Sky box (and can receive Sky in that part of France) you will be able to view Sky decoded signals either through the SCART output on the SKY box or via the aerial socket (both connections to a UK PAL TV).

You will not be able to receive off-air signals direct into the TV's aerial socket via a local rooftop aerial, unless your TV is truly multistandard.

The only disadvantage in all this is that if you take a VCR with you you can only record the programme you are watching usless you have SKY+ (in which case you wouldn't need the VCR anyway!)

You'll almost certainly find that it will work with Frog TV too. Virtually all modern TVs (especially plasma and LCD) are multi standard so that the manufacturers only have to make one model no matter where in the world it is going. Easy way to check is to tell it to auto tune, if it does VHF as well as UHF, it's multi standard.

It can be a lot cheaper to buy a telly in france.

Most appliances are 20-30% cheaper in the hypermarkets (away from the ferry ports anyway) and come with a 2 year g'tee instead of the uk's 1 year
