330D XDrive vs X3 2.0D - much difference in running costs?

Hi,

So am potentially looking at one of these but would like to know which would be the cheaper longterm ownership proposition. Both would be 2014/15 with no more than 60k miles.

Not bothered about resale value/depreciation, but more the day-to-day servicing, consumables, unexpected high-mileage items that may need replacing.

Has anyone got experience of running both of these?

330d all day long. Much nicer engine. Always amazed at the mpg from the 330d engine. Got 42 on over 30000 miles. Other costs similar just don't go main dealer.

330d engine more reliable as well.

Slight tangent but what are modern X3's like these days?

I've always had the image that they are a joke...stemming from when clarkson reviewed the first generation.

I'm seeing a lot of interest in X3's these days... I guess they've come a long way??

Some 3 series are Euro 6 without the adblue, my 330d xdrive was so worth checking as will certainly make it more desirable. It's a great car and the Xdrive performed wonderfully in all but the deepest snow. Great driving aid in the rain as well, although it does feel slightly raised.

If high mileage as in over 100,000 then possibly just the dpf may need removed and cleaned at some point due to the accumulation of ash). You can actually just wash it out yourself with hot water and a mild powered pressure washer (always start from the exit side first) and save a lot of money.
