Hi Everyone

I need to go shopping for new front tyres for our 1998 996.

Its a very low mileage car (just clicked over 60k miles) and does less than 2000 gentle miles a year at the moment.

Last time I bought tyres I purchased Bridgestone 'N' rated tyres. Do I need top continue to fit 'N' rated tyres or will any good quality tyre be OK?

We have got a good way down the Bridgestone's tread and they have worn evenly - I am disappointed that they are cracking in-between the tread.

What tyres do others recommend please? I don't want cheap, but at the same time, its hard earned money so a good value quality tyre is what I need

Thank you

Replaced the Pirellis on mine with Michelin PS2's, stuck with them for 10yrs & they are N rated though it wouldn't bother me if they weren't, they are a decent tyre still.

PS2 suits the 996 well.
I have recently replaced my PS2 with PS4 but too early to tell what the differences are.

I have some excellent used PS2s for sale in 18" if those are of interest.

I could be interested in rears, what size are they?

I’ve run most of the N rated stuff over the past 10 years/120k mikes on mine.

PS2’s or PS4’s are my preference. Contis are pretty good as well. Avoid Pirelli’s.

Currently Running PS4’s. Bit softer sidewalks than PS2’s, so need a couple more psi.

Michelin PS2 can be surprisingly good value. I bought mine from CostCo, pricing was approx £130 for the fronts and £160 for the rears (996 Carrera 4)

Fronts are 235/40 ZR18, rears 295/30 ZR18. GT3 sizes. They were on my 996.2 when I bought it and I have since moved to Cup2.

If the sizes check out I'll measure the tread depths for you - they're pretty decent all round.
