Getting the best deal on a new car

Righto chaps,

Missus has finally decided she will indicate what she would like from a new car, so the hunt is on, huzzah! Having trawled around most of the local dealers the shortlist atm is looking like this:

Skoda Octavia 1.5TSI SE
Skoda Scala 1.0/1.5TSI SE (not sure on engine)
Honda Civic EX
Mazda 3 Sport Lux (okay, might be my preference, funky new Skyactiv-X)
Toyota CHR (she'd love it... but it's pricey)

She probably wants new so I'm trying the get the best deal. Have been on Carwow and Coast2Coast, What Car Buying... is there anywhere else I should try?

The Scala is nice to sit in, but I have not driven one. I have it on my long-term, short list. I would go for the 1.5 TSi.

some good leases on these atm. If not leased before forget about "owning" - either lease, PCP or outright, they all cost money and its about minimising the cost per month. This is approx £100pm (similar depost) cheaper over 48 months

Aha, we've been doing just that! The existing car is over thirteen years old, still has some life in it but it's getting tired and is quite a bit more thirsty than what we are looking at.
