Recently had the above installed and we want this to run as an older traditional thermostat. As far as I can see the 3 settings we have are Off, Heat or Eco.

Off is pretty much a complete switch off and will ignore any schedules.

Heat allows me to manually set the temp or use a schedule

Eco keeps the house as a pre defined Eco temp and kicks in accordingly to maintain.

What we want is the heating off all day except at set times. I.e 19C 06:30 - 7:30 then 19C 18:30 - 19:30 and off the rest of the time.

In order for me to do this am I correct in thinking I need to have 'Heat' enabled then program my schedule?

What I don't get is when I go to the schedule and select my temp it allows me to do so in 15 min intervals. When does it turn itself off. As a test I set the heating to come on at 15:45 today and that's it. That was the only entry in the scheduler.

It came on as expected and I've gone out and come back and it's still on 2 hours later. How would I program the times I mention above in the schedule?

Sorry for rambling and not sure if this belongs here or in the home section.

Thanks in advance.

To turn it off, you’ll have to put a subsequent entry in the schedule at a much lower temperature.

So for example I might set mine to 20C at 0800 and 15C at 2300 which causes it to go off for the duration of the lower temp.

Obviously set the temps to your preference and how quickly your house cools down. If it went below 15C at night in my example the heating would kick back in to maintain that temp. If you didn’t want it to do so, you could just set a lower temp.

You can copy a day’s schedule (a “row” in the app) and then effectively paste it for other days, rather than setup each day individually.

Also be mindful of the “true radiant” feature by which the nest will attempt to come on early to bring your house up to temperature for the defined time. I expect if you set e.g. 19C at 0630 you want it to actually start heating at that time, not two hours earlier.

pretty much as above, but if you want it at 20 degrees at 2000 and its been off all day it will kick in at about 1800 to get it to 20 at 2000.

The other points to note are:

1. The "Learning" feature. If it is enabled, and if you make manual adjustments to the temperature at regular times, the thermostat will adjust the schedule to match what you normally do.

2. The "Away" feature. Set it up to use your phones' location and regardless of your schedule, the heating won't come on if no-one is home.

That depends on the settings. If True Radiant is enabled, it will do that to (hopefully) reach the desired temperature at the set time. But if it's disabled, then it will simply start heating at the scheduled time.
