Spent my day sat at the Pc battling but I have won... I followed a video guide for the entire thing other than some of the easier parts I could do myself.

Decided I finally need to learn some 3D modeling as I can see 3D printing of parts being useful.

Link to the guide if anyone else fancys suffering like me

Possibily, I had the choice of making clockwise and anti clockwise threads, I could of done them backwards.

Hey well done indeed and I feel your pain!

I've been using (and swearing) at Solidworks for a few years now and am finally getting my head round the clumsy implementation of doing things. People say it is a steep learning curve and they are quite right for all the wrong reasons, it reminds me of software developed in the 1990s before Steve Jobs came along and kicked some of the programmers up their backsides. Think of video editing before iMovie came along!

The problem with following some of the Solidworks tutorials on YouTube is that they sometimes teach you bad practice in doing things, but I guess they are better than nothing.

Take a look at the paid tutorial videos available for viewing at www.lynda.com which are superb, the company is now owned by Linkedin so believe that there are some promotional deals on offer. Am pretty sure I'm paying approx £22 per month but this allows me unlimited viewing of all the tutorial videos they have to offer, and this isn't just limited to tutorial videos on Solidworks, they have literally thousands of videos on all types of software on the market. Seem to recollect the first month is free and you can cancel any time you want. Highly recommended.

If you are still in the first year of ownership of SolidWorks then do take full advantage of their screen-share support, and don't be afraid to use it on a daily basis if need be, because once you stop paying the extortionate yearly support fee they don't want to know you.

Good luck.
