My boy has expressed an interest in having some sort of music system for his room, mainly for listening to whatever dross he's into but as an additional use it would be quite good for playing the odd audio book on the odd night he's struggling to go to sleep.

Would like to have something "connected" as we have quite a big music library on a DLNA server, and from that aspect I suspect he will need to use his tablet (and phone one day I expect) to control it, setup play lists etc. The thing here is that we don't give him all day access to his tablet otherwise he'd spend the whole time playing Roblox and therefore definitely won't be having it in his room at night. If we can control the system from outside his room to turn it off once he's asleep that would be good.

Had thought about another smart speaker, we have some Yamaha Musicast stuff, but for him something he can use by sticking a CD in & using the remote is probably better. Not interested in Alexa / Ok Google type things as they don't readily interface to DLNA servers and I don't want him asking endless questions of it rather than going to sleep.

I found this that seems to tick a lot of boxes: https://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/home-enterta...

Wondered if the collective had any other suggestions? The above is £150 on John Lewis at the moment. Don't really want to spend much more than that.

What about a Sonos 1? You can connect it to your local music collection and also add whatever streaming service you want. Control it with your phone/tablet or via voice control. It's a bit more than the Panasonic you've linked. Guess it depends what you have around the house as well?
