Is there a Logic Pro X equivalent for Windows?
Discussion
there are loads. none are as good, but Fruity Loops is the easiest to manouvre. however, id recommend Cubase, especially as its a-level. they'll surely teach him a lot that can be done in Cubase
if he need complexity, there's Reason. Ableton if he wants to be hipster about it, but thats difficult to pick up

Ask his tutors.
There are many DAWs available for both Mac and Windows, and the tutors will doubtless have their own ideas about which is best to use. These range from free to exceptionally expensive.
I will say one thing for sure: in A level they won't get close to touching the sides of what Logic Pro can do. It's an incredibly powerful and complex piece of software that many music professionals with years of experience never really get to grips with.

It's a wee while since I've been involved with DAWS, but don't forget about ProTools, by Avid, which certainly used to be very commonly used professionally. They have a version called 'ProTools First' which is cheap/free, albeit with reduced functionality, but would teach him the use of an industry standard (Or used to be - someone else may say things have moved on).
