What fun daily - £60k

Hi all,

I apologise up front as these threads usually don’t go as planned for me. In fact, last time I asked about getting an SUV to replace my 911 Turbo, I ended up buying an R8 V10 plus.

But this time I am determined to stay on track! My two car experiment failed. I bought an R8 for £112k and a daily driver station car of a piece of crap Volvo V50 for 3k. This didn’t work. I ended up driving 90% of my time in an Ancient Volvo and 10% of my time driving the R8. It sucked, hairy ones the size of King Kong - depreciation was like VBRJ with an open jar of Tobasco. I drove 3k miles in the R8 in 2 years and lost £45k. Let’s not go there

So this time have set myself a budget of £60k. My objective is to buy something that I can drive 100% of the time, fit two kids in the back and even go away with wife and kids for the weekend, cruise on a motorway, hoon on country roads - so basically an all-rounder for a Petrol head. I think if I can get 60% of the practicality of a V50 and 70% of the fun of an R8, I will be doing well.

Currently on my list is an F80 M3 CS, they look awesome.

Oh, the other criteria is no longer than 4.75m or it won’t fit in the garage :-) (this requirement prevents me getting a Mazz, which is a big pity)

Ok, so talk to me about this Alfa. I have heard they have lots of niggles and that would drive me nuts - is it true? Also, with Alfa backing away from the segment, should there be concerns around support, parts, insurance, etc? Very interested to hear because I had written them off based on these two points

The CS for sure. The Jahre 30 has caught my eye as well, but I can’t understand the premium - some of which is made up by Carbon Brakes, but I think a CS makes more man maths sense

Can't remember what year car you would need, but Alfa began to offer 5 years warranty, 3 years free servicing and 5 years road side assistance as standard for all Giulia's and Stelvio's

Cars registered on or after 1 July 2018 were offered with the 5-3-5

The early cars had niggles (like pretty much every new cars that are released these days) but the later cars are better as above they're also offering the 535 package now too, go & test drive one you may well be surprised.

I really didn't get on with my non CP M3 which is why it only lasted three months, the CP is an improvement but the CS is the pick of the bunch.

Some great deals on a the new X3m/ X4m Competition , over 500 Bhp, great handling for an Suv, although some reviews state that the ride is too harsh even in comfort mode.

Traction or lack there of was a problem it felt disjointed the exhaust note was rubbish (improved with an exhaust upgrade but still not good) it wasn't much of an event at low speed & I still had my CLK63 which was the car it was meant to replace but it lacked in too many departments for me.

As I said the CP improved things a lot but I'd still be buying the Alfa or C63 (in that order) before the M3 (but if it was the CS) the order would be:

Thank you for that, I will go and check out the Alfa.

I was a big fan of the last C63, but when I went to look at the current C63, it looked very plain next to the M cars. I really wish the C63 Black was 15k cheaper because that would be awesome.

Are the RS4’s dull?
