Erratic Temp. Guage

My temp guage seems to have a life of it's own. Driving along normally it reads about 70, but in traffic or moving slowly in town it goes up to 90 and the fans come in, it then drops to 50 very quickly and varies between 50 and 90 till I get out on the open road.Fans seem to come in ok and I have an override switch. Is this any thing to worry about or do they all do this sir ? Peter

Very good question. Mine does exactly the same, although I haven't fitted an override switch. Yet.

Mine's just started playing up too, all is working fine on the fans side of the equation, but the gauge is convinced that they're coming on at 75..

Must give the sensor connections a bit of a clean.

Slightly o/t:

I got my first temperature problem ever yesterday. Up to 100 in traffic when I noticed that the fans weren't kicking in.

I'd blown the fuse on the horn at Rockingham. In true TVR style, this fuse is also used for one of the fans. I think the other fan blew its fuse in the heavy traffic as it was over-worked.

The guage sender is seperate to the fans switch. If you have a serp engine and have the spare sender on the top of the head you can use that for the temp guage, you will need a resistor to calibrate, adjustable best option.

Have noticed that when the temp. guage gets up to 90 and the fans come in, it immediately drops to under 50, strange, will have to check all contacts.

take david beers advice ,i had same problem,took davids advice,now gauge is rock steady
