Just received my copy of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard’s ‘Infest the Rats Nest’ and duly cranked the dial to the three o’clock position. Started to experience clipping on both channels during track four.

I have had one channel drop out altogether before now under similar circumstances.

Rega A2D Mini Phono pre-stage
Cambridge Audio 340A SE (45w into 8 Ohm)
Mordant Short floor standers (15-150w 4-8 Ohm)

To be expected I suppose, pushing the amp so hard.

Am I right in thinking that I need to find an amp which will give me the volume I need at the 12 o’clock position?

That's your issue!

Yeah.

You need something with some proper power.

It is only 45w into 8ohms and then only 55w into 4ohm.

Some of the old Marantz stuff and Yamaha amps are where my money would be, you can pick them up for good prices for what they deliver.

No.

You are driving the amp into distortion.

Thanks. Any tips on models? Yamahas look like they do 4 ohm... A-S500 does something like 90w and has a built in Phono pre-stage?
