Might be worth checking roll bar mounts. The U shaped brackets break

Sounds like the sort of car you need to drive the wrong way down the road and play "chicken"! ;^)

But on the serious side, could be a worn UJ, but usually that fails the MoT. Maybe a front tyre rubbing on full lock?

The upper wishbone can also catch on the spring seat are of the chassis.

I think that's what is happening on mine as the shock is knackered so the spring is probably doing all the work redface

Mine passed...the MOT guy was even aware of it as he had a good poke about but could not see anything...it only clunks on mine over speed humps...we changed the O/S shock as it was leaking for a good spare but new ones are on the list...get a garage to have a poke about...how old are your shocks & Springs?

Can you identify where the clunking is coming from, it is not easy to pinpoint ..when were the front bushes done...I:e drop link..leading link to chassis..ARB..track rod ends.even the rack or UJ's..is the steering firm...no up and down or more importantly in & out movement..there will be some play with the adjuster...could be someone in the boot biggrin

I had a bad clonk from the front end when turning sharply and one of the u shaped brackets had popped out. Put back again and been fine for the last couple of years. Could have been due to the stupid block paving speed humps around our estate.

I have had similar recently and it turned out to be a bit of play in the drop link and the roll bar bracket had moved but not come out of its groove. difficult to trace but easy to remedy.

If it's the roll bar clamp I found some Saxo ones that have two bolts and fit well, you just drill out the upper groove to a hole and put an M8 bolt through. Much more secure than the old Ford ones (that tend to fracture as well with high miles).
