New Toy - M2 Competition

As the title suggests, I thought I would start a thread about my latest purchase.
Having had both an E46 and an E90 M3 over the last ten years and, more recently, an M135i which my wife uses, I had been looking at getting back into a proper M car and as good as the latest M3 and M4 are, they are a bit too big for my liking, so the smaller M2 Competition just fitted the bill.
I have always had a liking for blue cars but when I saw this one in Hockenheim Silver with the additional carbon bits and pieces fitted by the current owner, I thought it just looked the perfect combination. He had the roof wrapped in carbon and the front splitter and side sills fitted. Together with the rear diffuser and the M Performance exhaust tips. You cannot currently buy an M Performance exhaust for the car so the lack of sound may have to be addressed at a later date.

He had also had the front bumper and sills covered with PPF and also the rear bumper top, but I decided to have the front wings, bonnet, mirrors and A pillars covered as well to protect the most vulnerable areas. The company I used in Sheffield also extended the stone guards on the rear arches for a bit of extra protection. They did a fantastic job (not sure if I’m allowed to name the company who did the work but if you’re interested, just PM me).
I had looked at another car a few years ago at the same company who are based near Selby and this particular M2 was the personal car of one of the owners. Having been a run in the car and talked to the guy, I could tell he was as anal as me about how to look after your pride and joy, so I had no hesitation in buying it.








What with the horrendous weather and work commitments, the opportunities to drive the car have been very limited, so I’ll keep updating the thread as the weeks/months go on with more photos and driving impressions.

It’s less than a year old, yet modified and sold on? Short pcp by previous?

Looks nice in that colour, would love a toy like that.

Often the case with ///M cars, bought new and owned for a few months then sold once the novelty wears off.
Many of these were bought by people thinking they would increase in value right away too, sucked for them that this wasn’t the case.

Lovely car OP in the best colour too, still yet to drive one of these, the “normal” M2 left me a little underwhelmed.

I have a real love for the M2 ever since the original non competition one launched, i think it’s entirely to do with rear quarters of the car and how wide and purposeful they look, excellent choice on spec it looks really tastefully modified to my eye!

Surprised you would find an M2 underwhelming, so was curious, you have a Golf R32? Interesting!

You’ve obviously gone through my previously owned vehicles, so let me explain.

My wife and I had a 140i and 240i last year, I drove the M2 just after I got the 140i and it just didn’t feel as special as it should compared to mine and the wife’s ‘normal’ non M cars. The interior was much and such the same, the straight line performance was no better and the overly hard suspension in normal driving was a bit of a chore. It handled far better, with far superior composure on the road, however as a whole it just left me feeling a bit short changed

The R32 is the wife’s daily, we put the BMWs back earlier on this year as they weren’t being used enough to justify their monthlies

Interesting comparison Martin, as I'm torn between the M140 and an M240 convertible. If you had to go for one, which would it be? It'll be the Mrs car mainly and we've got two kids, but an XC60 for family stuff.

I would drive them both first. They are extremely fast in straight line but ultimately found it a bit numb and uninvolving to drive. (I had a M135i for 2 years from new).If you just want a fast daily driver then it's fine for that but I wouldn't buy one as a 'fun' or special car.

I'd much rather have a Megane 260 or even a E92 M3 is a similar price these days admittedly with higher overall running costs, almost zero depreciation should offset that though.

I have a 140. I think it’s great, but it’s a daily driver so I wanted something reasonable to run (VED, fuel, servicing, insurance etc) but was still quick when I wanted it to be and it ticks those boxes for me. The handling isn’t as bad as the internet would have you believe but nor is it perfect (I’d expect the M2 to be a good chunk better.

I love these for the same reasons as a previously poster; the rear three quarters are sensational! Much mor imposing than the M4 I think and on par with the M3.

Colour choice and spec is superb - I think you have made an excellent choice

You know what, I have never liked grey as a colour or understood the modern trend to use it.
However I have to say that looks bloody lovely!
Probably my favourite real world car at present.

Really nice, looks cool. I nearly bought one myself but in the end went for an M4 CP with ultimate pack..
