Starting a new business

I'm at the very early stages of starting a business, and I've been searching on the internet for a company to manufacture my product either within the UK or overseas and I'm not having much luck finding any factories.

I have been on sites such as Alibaba but I don't understand the website fully at the moment as I'm only finding companies that have already produced a product and are offering the sale of that item, I guess I could contact them to see if they can produce my item but I'm not sure if that's how it works.

I'm looking for a company/factory that can make wellies to start with but with my specific requirements!

Can anyone point me in rite direction.

Look on ali baba for a manufacturer not an agent, message them asking if they offer a manufacturing service, moq, lead times etc.

I am currently in this process myself, albeit a different industry, speaking with manufacturers is difficult trying to get them to understand what you want (I've found drawing images of what you want and sending a picture over is best)

You would probably be best putting an RFQ (request for quotation) on alibaba and let the manufacturers come to you. You can outline what you want so they can see and they can tell you if they can produce what you want.

Sample fees are also really expensive as they are only producing a couple of items for you to have a look at and they may have to produce moulds or items needed to produce your product.

Firstly you need to determine how the item would be made:-

Injection Molding, Blow Molding, Rotational Molding,

The finish required :-

Plain Finish, Pattern Finish.

Is there anything special with the design:-

Patent protection. If you use someone in the far east (China is the worst) it will likely be stolen and re-produced.

The above will help determine what types of companies you need to talk.

Finally, take a look at items currently in the market, you can usually tell who made it. Then you can make direct contact with that company. Some where like Mole Valley have loads of Wellies, a look at those will probably give you a steer.

I know the company who made the F35 rubber masks for the pilots, I think they make all sorts of rubber stuff.
