Sending virtual hugs....talk about 1st world problems...I guess there’s quite a lot to analyse after a race like that

Knowing the podium doesn’t tell you the story of the race. It’ll still be good to watch.

Wouldn't worry. By the time you've watched the highlights they'll have sorted the finishing order.

Yeah with the way stewarding is going these days, you could have watched the race, Ted's notebook and the highlights but still not be sure what the result was.

Yes, that new race director chap has a lot to learn after Charlies demise.

Not generally impressed on his decisions overall TBH.

You might think in such high-tech times it would be easy to achieve what you want.

However, the tech has killed any notion of not watching the race live. Which is exactly what SKY want. They need you to be predisposed to watching the next race live.

Having previously handed over a very large wedge.

It is one advantage of Ch4, they have promised not to give the result before they show the highlights.

The music industry ended up a bit like this... They ended up selling so few singles that they started to charge £10 a time which lead to massive piracy which in turn eventually forced them to accept a fairer model (as designed by Steve Jobs) and then everyone started paying happily again, at £1 a song, and probably spent as much as they ever had done back when they had to buy one CD single at a time. this continues to this day and music piracy is no longer a major factor and everyone is getting paid, and everyone is listening to more music than ever.

So whilst I would never promote such a thing, the accurate answer to how to both watch the race when you want to, and also help bring pricing back in check, would technically have to be to.. erm... get creative. If enough people find a creative solution for long enough, the content providers will in the end re-asses their offering and make it fairly priced and as freely accessible as the 'unofficial' sources do.

Funny how Jobs thought it a fair system for an industry different to his but when it came to software developers and peripheral makers in his own industry he was anything but fair.

Tuned in @20:30 for the highlights.

Was oblivious to the result, hence wanting to watch the aforementioned.

Except bloody Ted is romping around the paddock blathering on about the podium.

Why are Sky such a bunch of censored.

If you're going to schedule highlights immediately after the live broadcast, could they at least end on bloody time!

mad
They did this to me last time out at the USA GP. Full race replay scheduled to start at 11:30pm. I tune in at 11:31pm and they're on lap 33.

We missed the qualifying, avoiding all the news for hours and watched the re-run on Sky. Half way through there was a commercial break and one of the ads went on about Verstappen being on pole! FFS, I know TV is declining in popularity but sometimes it's not hard to see why!

I still don't get why you have to pay for Sky AND have to watch adverts.

Why do CH4 have to wait so long to broadcast the highlights? It wouldn’t be an issue for most but on Sat night I missed the quali show on CH4 due to being very, very drunk. I’ve just binned Sky and F1TV can’t come soon enough. I didn’t want to bin Sky but they offered me a deal to re-sign that should have been cheaper but ended up being more expensive and wouldn’t honour their offer so bye bye Sky. I enjoy Sky’s coverage on the whole because it’s the only way to get the full weekend live but the majority of their team eg Croft, Lazenby, PDR, Hill, Chandhok are dull as dishwater and are sorely in need of a charisma transplant.

It's part of Sky's terms that Ch4 have to broadcast x hours after the race. They can also only show 45 minutes of actual racing I believe, the terms were explained on here at some point I think scratchchin

That's broadly it, and also no more than half the show can be footage of the session.

In a nutshell, C4 are allowed to be an advert for getting a sky subscription if you want to watch the whole thing live. It's Sky's intention no doubt to drag people through the paywall. The only problem with their plan is that the paywall is to high for most people, and the C4 show does a good enough job to make do with just that. It'll never be as good as sitting down to watch a race unfold live, as it happens... But for many people, it's close enough and they save about £10 per race weekend.

Someone at Sky fked up the maths/strategy on this one. Hopefully they'll put out a better set of options before too long.

As you appear to have Sky why didn't you just record the race and then watch that back when convenient?

The delays were caused by the large amount of excitement at the end of the race and waiting for various stewards decisions to come through, so Sky stayed with the coverage. One of the beauties of not having to switch to other programming.

As posted above. It’s called series link. I don’t often watch live but it’s ready and waiting for when I am.

This. It’s really not that difficult. Record the race. Start TV on mute.
Start the recorded programme, fast forward to the end of the formation lap.
Watch.
Fast forward any boring bits.

A : I was on Go

... and 2 : I'd rather watch a carefully edited Highlight package, as a personal preference.

Time is at more of a premium than I'd like at the w/e!

I see your point but the full programming would also require me finding the oofer doofer of which, was last seen pre-dog, and on a previous sofa biggrin

I jest of course. I don't have a sofa.
