Laptop for 11YO

[VTECMatt]

I have to admit I know nothing about what I should be looking for. First year of secondary school and needs a laptop.

I don't want to spend money unnecessarily and he isn't into IT so likely use for homework and browsing only, so a budget of around £300 excluding software, presume need office.

What do you suggest?

TIA

Matt

Ask the school what system they have. My boys school uses Google Classroom and they all get given a Chromebook when they join the school. They all use Google docs as it is all online so you don't have to worry about data loss if they do something stupid with the laptop. He doesn't need Office at all.

Personally for home use Google docs are perfectly adequate so maybe just get a decent Chromebook anyway. No real security issues and easy to reset if needed. you just factory reset and then sign in again.

Find out what the school want you to do with it. If it turns out that they do want Office and provide it free you'll be a bit gutted if you've bought something that won't run it.

Good points made I'll email his form tutor. Thank you
