Yikes! When did they move the speed limits on the A40?

I thought the 50mph limit came into affect just before or after the Target roundabout (When your heading into town) went down there this morning and they've moved it to before the Polish War Memorial!

I'm sure it wasn't like that on Friday!

It used to be - they changed it

Doesn't seem to stop the middle/outer lane hoggers, tailgaters, drunks, druggies, un-taxed, un-insured...just a usual day on the A40.

Luckily I come off at the Polish to head into South Harrow so it doesn't really affect me

Another section of road included which naturally flows quickly with good hiding spots for scamera vans. Although AFAIK radar is not popular outside RAF bases (ie Northolt) - not sure on laser.

Good lane choices on the A40 will see you to your destination quicker than speeding. That and not getting numptied.

Was numptied this morning by a massive dumper truck as I joined the A40. Par for the course. I've just come to expect it.

Like you say you can often make better progress by choicing your lanes correctly then speeding (or even going at the speed limit for that matter!)

Wondered when this would happen. The 50 signs have been under wraps on that stretch for a couple of weeks.

Absolutely pointless!

Totally agree. The traffic has normally ground to a halt just after the Polish War Memorial anyway!

Damn frustrating! Although i don't know where they will hide a scam van on that stretch so i'll probably just carry on as before.

Be very careful, this will be Policed.

Too many numpty drivers and people that think they are Nigel Mansel are to blame. They always ruin it for the rest of us.

Cheers for the heads up Tony. You haven't been around for a while - Hope everything is ok at work/home

Not sure if its people thinking their Nigel Mansell (although some of it is!) the main frustration i have on their in the mornings is piss poor lane discipline!

Came away from town this way on Monday and it look like the 50 zone extension is just one way. Going west it looks like it's 70 from the Macdonalds (can't remember real name!) roundabout onwards.

Thats the Target Roundabout.

I've been staying in Ruislip for a few days so I haven't gone back down the A40 towards Denham yet - will do tonight.

I have been using the A40 a fair bit over the last week and it is horrible!

Coming out of town at 3:00am I had the three lane well lit road to myself and sticking to the 40's and 50's is enough to send me off to sleep! I turn off the A40 at the roundabout after the Polish war memorial and on to unlit single lane country roads with the same speed limit There is no logic to it.

Coming out of town (Heading for the M40 Uxbridge) the speed limit so far has not been reduced..

However, a bad smash or two on the current 70 mph stretch will no doubt cause them to reduce it.

I think the most dangerous part is just past the old Swakeley's roundabout where you get cars trying to get off to Denham /Gerrards Cross ,other cars trying to move into the 2 lanes going on to the M40
- was undertaken there this morning by some lunatic in an Audi who was only a few yards away from going into the back of an HGV and oblivion.
That stretch is still 70 mph !

Yeah your right! That is a strange set up there not sure how they could improve it though as there isn't enough room.

Thats the junction I use to leave the A40. It can get very frustrating there! lol.

Keep It Safe Folks!

I've lost count of the number of serious accidents Tonyrec has mentioned here (or I have seen) on that stretch of road.

And there are plenty of bridges for the hair-dryer crew to use.
