I caught the trailer to this the other night. It's a dark comedy satire about a young lad with an imaginary friend, growing up during WW2 while in the Hitler Youth, who discovers that his mum has been secretly hiding a young Jewish girl in their loft.
The subject matter means it won't appeal to all and probably won't be shown in every cinema, however it is very much an anti-hate message. I'm going to make sure I track down a showing when it's released on Jan 1st.

Grace Randolph (Beyond The Trailer on Youtube) is not happy about this film due to the Nazi aspect, but from initially appreciating her film reviews, i now find them way off the mark for me, she seems to be one of those that takes offence with just about everything.
So based on that, I'll give it a view if i get the chance

It looks great to me.
I do wonder if all the best jokes are in the trailer, but I'm definitely going to see it when I get the chance.
What better way to deal with Fascism than to ridicule it, rather than burying your head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist...?

I went with my son (22) to see this last night as I've got car insurance through the Meerkats this year, so 2 for 1 tickets.
It's very funny, lots of laughing out loud, but (as you might expect) rather sad and even slightly shocking at times.
It's a little bit bonkers, as the trailer suggests, but more poignant than the trailer suggests.
Cinema (ok, a smaller screen) was about 1/2 full - Maybe the Meerkats effect on a Tuesday.
Well worth a watch if you fancy something different.

Watched it last night, mainly because I have loved Taika Waititi's work so far and was intrigued by this film.
Wasn't disappointed, really beautifully filmed, emotional, sympathetic but never hiding away from the sadistic side of the Nazi's. The boy playing Jojo was really good (as was the lad who played York) I know it is based on a book called Caged Skies and may read it (which I would not have considered before now)
I could happily watch it again. A favourite of mine for quite sometime.

I saw this a couple of days ago* and I have to agree with almost everything written above.
Some excellent performances, especially from Roman Griffin Davis and Stephen Merchant.
I missed this film when it first came out*, as when I quickly scanned the listings
I assumed that 'JoJo Rabbit' was probably a cute animated film for children

.A masterpiece = and so much more eloquent about war, albeit a different one ,than the clunkingly dreadful 1917.
The opening scenes , to the strains of the Beatles, aber auf Deutsch , hooked me and I found the ending just sublime , with the most perfect setting yet of a certain song by Bowie .
Funny, moving , horrific - a film you don't forget .
