Im in the process of selling my 991.2 Carrera S. It’s been my dream car, first 911 I’ve ever had, but getting itchy feet and just ready for something new.

I’d dearly like a 992 but not prepared to pay the prices as they are and would prefer to wait until late 2020 to pick up a used model with an element of the depreciation built in.

Question is, what on Earth do I go to after my dream car?

Budget of £80k, something to run for 12 months. Open to any suggestions any kind PH’ers may have!

There’s no better car for the money. Test drive a Jag or Aston and you will realise how good the 911 is.

Thanks for the reply. The 991 or the 992?

991 GTS?

Or how about an R8 V10 Plus? One of the last great NA engines.

Seems fruitless going from one 991 to another and albeit to a GTS which would be less of an everyday car.

The R8 would be a no go on the odd occasion I’d need to get two kids in the back!

I love the Carrera S, perfect everyday car whereas a GTS would be too pointy for me!

Is the 992 worth ‘upgrading’ to in your opinion?

Have you driven a 992 and or a 991.2 GTS OP ? Plenty of people daily a 991.2 GTS....in fact I would say most people who own one do. I’d have a 991.2 GTS over a 992.

A 991.2 GTS is just as useable as a Carrera S. I have a 991.1 GTS and I use it everyday, including transporting my kids to school. The GTS are just 10% better all round.

The 992 is more of a GT car than the 991. Nice interior and great for an everyday car. But I found it slightly dull compared to the 991, feet a bit ‘Audi’.

Heard they’re dreadful in terms of reliability.

And currently impossible to sell. I spoke to a couple of dealers about them, they had no interest buying them in.

No, just going off the conversations I’ve had with my local OPC driver.

I’ll have a closer look. Thank you.

A lot of it is forum hearsay.

Worth trying one to see what you think. Utter bargain just now

Non Gt porkers are a bit dull, my GTS lasted 2 months !
My golfs a better drive.

So it depends what you are after, nice transport which looks posh on the drive, or some thing to enjoy driving.

As always, depends on what you are looking for. Personally, I would also never buy a non-GT 911 again. If you love driving and tasted what a 911 can feel like, there is no turning back

OP said budget was £80k, and needs occasional seats for his kids.

Everyone's different. I enjoy my GTS more of the time, because it's more accessible than the GT3. If I had to choose between the two....
