R1 against Ultima what do you reccon?

Whilst out on a little jolly yesterday I came across a nice looking R1 and a stretch of deserted dual carriage way (honest!). The bike pulled up behind me instantly letting me know he wanted to play, I did the decent thing and pulled over to let him past...... Then floored it. The bike looked like it had been tricked up, under seat 4-pipe system, very nice!
At first we had a couple of bends and one or two round abouts, ideally suited to the Ultima it was obvious their was no contest the massive tyres just stuck like glue. As we got on to the straights my gut feelin was the Ultima would dominate the bike here too.
The bloke riding the bike was very thoughtful, he waited until the road was clear before really gunning it, I assume just to give me a fair chance (and a honest ass whipping!!). Up through the gears, second, third and fourth I could close the gap. I was only using probably 80% throttle. At this point we came into a bit of traffic so I sat back and relaxed, time to digest what just happened, my car is faster than an R1, yippee…. I did secretly expect to kick his butt though.
As we came to another clear patch of we went again, same as before up to fourth, no problem. I didn’t want to get too close to him, a biker myself I know I don’t like someone up my chuff at speed so I gave him a good distance. As we hit fifth the gap started open, I wasn’t having that, I nailed it, the gap was back to how I wanted. No problem but I was now at full throttle.
Approaching my rev limit in fifth, the R1 rider was flat against the tank his wrist doubled over, probably expecting to see a little dot in the distance by now, a shadow of my former self, oh no I’m still here. :wavey:
Up into top and off again my foot was now firmly planted to the deck, the revs were slowly climbing. It didn’t matter the bike had pulled away. Aaaaarrrrggg. Only a cars length but he definitely pulled away. Gutted!!
I probably had about 600 rpm to go but the road was fast coming to an end so we both backed off and powered down the warp engines. As we came upto the first lot of traffic I got a big thumbs up of him and then he was gone, I couldn’t get through the traffic quite that easily, DOH!
I honestly believed the Ultima would batter a bike into the ground on a straight, is that just wishful thinking? Am I expecting too much of my car? (or is it just slow). Unlikely but I would love to here the R1s views on the event, I was buzzin and I know travelin at speed on a bike is much more intense.
By the way just in-case anyone is wonderin my car has a 1.3 overhead valve engine coupled to the diff out of a 1100 cortina givin it a top speed of about 75mph. As I had revs left in reserve I reccon I was doin 68mph tops!!!! :jester:

Owning a GSXR1000 and Ultima I'd say he wasn't trying!! Corners and braking the bike would have no chance against the Ult. Straights forget them!! My GSXR will pull power wheelies at 120+ (on the track of course!!) Unless you've ridden one you have no perception of how quick they are (No disrespect meant!!).

I haven’t had a bike pull away from low speeds or standstill. They usually struggled getting the power down although I've seen a few good wheelie's. I would expect them to pull away as the speeds increase but I haven't had one play on a big open road yet.

took my GTR yesterday to a well known country road (lots of bends and some nice straights, new surface, little traffic). Known mainly to bikers, there are always a lot of them around for a weekend blast.
One of them wanted to play, do not know though what bike it was, but looked pretty strong and was very fast, and the guy knew how to drive, at least it looked impressive from following behind.
Didn´t want to risk too much (road was still wet in some places after the morning´s rain) so I would not even try to overtake him. Interesting finding was that he could not pull away on the straights. I had to go into the rev limiter, though (7.300rpm on my 550HP 383). I was very impressed by the Ultima, I have to say, don´t think any other car comes close to that, at least on straights. I suppose that the guy on the bike was surprised, too.

None taken, Ive rode an R1 half way round europe and done 12000 miles on a blackbird in 8 months, I can safely say I know how fast they are. That said you do get more of a feelin of speed on a bike. It certainly looked like he was ringin its neck. I dont know what times an R1 can do 0 to top speed. Any one know?
Chewy, already spoke to wayne, its already in hand as soon as he gets back from the TT he said he will gladly whip my butt. (thats if he brings it back in one piece, i doubt it;-)

This is a stock bike with a professional rider, so you figure an average rider with some mods may be able to pull a 9.XX pass. At the drag strip near me I never see guys pull times anywhere close to what the mags quote. Depending on your ultimas stats I think you could out run one. Just find one with a fat rider.

What weight and power is an R1? Add 80kg for the rider to the weight of the bike and do the calc.
Doesn't torque play a part in this?
And drag coefficient? As speed rises air resistance becomes the biggest factor to overcome, therefore the bike will start to lose the accelerative advantage imbued by its superior power to weight ratio. I doubt an R1 is x3.5 more aerodynamically efficient than an Ultima so the huge power advantage should pay of at the top end.
I once destroyed a blade that tried to get me to play at motorway speed.... it lost very badly.
I have a modded Duke 916 and my Ult would leave this for dead on the straight.
However from a GSXR1000 and R1 I would expect a much closer match, unless you have Gmans power or more it will be the person with the least brains that will pull the advantage.
A std GSXR1000 does 0-100 in sub 6seconds!

Dont know much about Ultima GTR's performance in the real world.
But a well known Skyline owner happens to own a bike shop and used to race bikes, to a high standard. A 700bhp skyline hands an R1 its ahse on a plate at all speeds at all times - so personally I would imagine that a 600bhp Ultima should easily do the same, given the massive weight advantage.
Its far far harder to replicate good figures on a bike than it is in a car, although once rolling at 40mph and above alot of skill is taken out for doth vehicles so i guess its a fair fight. My lowly 600bhp skyline never could quite live with R1's - GSXR750's and Fazer 1000's, but not the R1 !! That said the older R1 was shorter geared and used to hit a wall at about 175 which is a bit like taking candy off a baby !! lolol
