Hi guys,

I've got the engine light on my car it's a CR140 Golf, I have scanned it with carista and it's showing as the coolant pump B circuit open.

Had a little look online and it's something I want to attempt and replace myself instead of paying the £250 I've just had quoted for getting it done at a garage.

Will be really helpful if someone with much more knowledge can hopefully guide me.

Thanks in anticipation

Hopefully that price was broken down into parts and labour. If not, you'll have to price up the parts and see how much of the quote was labour. For example you might find half the price was labour. You also want to know the labour rate they were going to charge. For example they might be charging £50 an hour. From that you can get a pretty accurate of how many hours it would take for an experienced mechanic with all the necessary tools and parts on hand to do the job under workshop conditions. For example it might work out to 2-3 hours of labour. You can probably multiply that by a factor of ten for an inexperienced mechanic tackling the job for the first time. Only you can say whether you prefer to pay the money or the time and inconvenience.

Pump itself is £160. Have been reading online that it has taken others around 30 mins to fit who like me aren't up to scratch on home mechanics lol. Gonna give it a try and worst case scenario I fail and it gets recovered to a garage to get fitted.
