I got mine from Sportmotive a couple of years ago, alternatively you could try Classic World Racing (David Gerald), they added a cross brace to my existing rollbar In my old V8S so may be willing to make one for you smile.

Ask on the Chim forum, a number of guys have them fitted for better trackday safety, I just can’t remember who does them off hand.

Are you after something to look pretty/clamp GoPro to or something to race regs that might do some good should you park your car upside down?

Mine is a bolt in roll bar made up by TR Lane.

Here is a link to their website.

https://www.trlanefabs.co.uk/CUSTOMER-CARS.html

I can't believe they are still using the picture of my old car which they used as a prototype for this bar. It must have been at least 10 years ago!

Since then I have transferred it to my later Chimaera.

If you buy one of these it is designed to fit around the standard seats. I changed my seats to Lotus Elise seats which were recovered in leather to match the interior. I had to have the uprights adjacent to the seat slightly modified to clear the wider Lotus seats.

Happy to show you mine if ever you are around, (the car that is).

I meant to say, don't go for the twin hoop one on his website as this was an earlier attempt at a rollbar and even though it looks great when you are not in the car it is so low it only suits very vertically challenged people!

Is this the car that fell off a car transporter or something like that?

I remember seeing a Subaru Impreza that had gone straight into a 3ft ditch at they reckon 80 mph then onto its roof so an endo in effect and all 4 young lads were killed instantly. Not sure how relevant that is, any protection must be better than none smile
I’ve driven welsh roads like a nutter as a kid, The tvr turned out to be a very different experience. Takes skill and deep concentration, very different beast from an old Fiesta rofl

Phazed roll hoop is defo strong and offers much better protection than nothing. It concerns me more and more so if I keep my car long term I would indeed install one.
The added torsional stiffness being a very nice extra that comes with it.

Some say it adds risk as your head sits next to it, if your head is getting knocked about you are already in a bad crash scenario, padding can reduce this risk so on balance a decent hoop must be a good thing.

Yes the Griff fell off the front of a lorry in Buxton on its way to auction I seem to recall?

I am one of the 'naysayers' on roll bars. I would not wish my unprotected head to be anywhere near metal in a crash, padded or not. I have seen the injurious effects on people in modern vehicles with the degree of safety designed into them. It does not need to be a bad crash scenario either. Having seen a minorish rear end bump with whiplash I know how far the neck, and therefore head, will move, when a ladies lipstick left a 'kiss' mark on her shirt just above her stomach it made me think anyway.

I am with you up to a point but I don’t think you should lose sight of the fact that a Chim or griff has practically no protection at all!

I believe my rollbar which has the necessary padding where it counts is far better than none at all.

Are there any designs available which have the roll bar behind your head, but also enable the seat to be fully rearwards? It seems to be generally one or the other. I’m fairly tall at 6’4” and my head is close to the targa hoop (standard Griff seats).

Peter (Phazed above) is pretty tall I believe, so would think is seats would be pretty well far back in their adjustment.

Thanks, those bars look pretty much next to your head still though with the seat fully back. I was thinking more of something along the lines of the black MX-5 customer car also shown on the TR Lane site, but perhaps you just don’t have the clearance to get a good enough height inside the rear hood section. I’ll have a look at my car and think about it when I’m in the garage tomorrow.

The TR Lane rollbar needs to be where it is to clear the roofline. The further you move the rollbar back the lower it has to be situated and therefore isn’t of any use.

If ever you are in the Surrey area you’re welcome to have a look at mine.

I had mine custom made. Wasn't cheap but it is very good quality and possible the safest I have seen short of a full Roll cage. On track days I take the cushion out of the Tuscan seats and the hoop is above my head. It also has a harness fitted for added security.

I am just outside Burton Trent if you want a look see.

It’s got a Perspex wind deflector to avoid bad hair days! You can just make it out if you zoom in on the third picture
