Whenever i am out and about, usually someone usually comes over to comment on the car, have a look around and sometimes ask for a pic.

Yesterday, when i parked up, a guy and his young son came over and after looking about then asked if he could see the engine...

This happened on a quite a few occasions when i had Ferraris, and when you popped the lid it was followed by the impressed 'ahhhs' when they see how busy it was in there with the pleniums, manifolds and scarlett red cam covers...yesterday i got a short 'oh' in a shall we say disappointed tone followed by 'how do you work on that?!' laugh

I guess after the visuals of the looks, colour and pure theatre doors the engine bay is a little bit less dramatic with most of it being covered.

Is it the same with 540s, 570s and 720s engine bays? Its not something i have paid any attention to before on McLarens.

You can't really see a lot on the 720 -

Though the red glow creates a bit of theatre -

Visually, the 720S engine bay is damn piss boring to look at. You can't even open it up. There is a mesh that can be removed with the use of a special Torx tool, but apart from that, not much to look at.

I'm guessing that people won't hang about while you dig out the torx tool!

I think i have only had the engine lid up about 3 times...one of them to take this pic.

Maybe next time i shall say it needs a special tool to open it to avoid disappointment...hehe

The engine cover on the 570 is fixed down with 2 torx screws, but once its off the engine looks quite purposeful, but clearly not designed to be shown-off.

The reality is that there isn't anything a DIY'er can do under there other than a little light cleaning, so there's no need for a hinged bonnet.

No, just a grill to the section of the engine cover over the plenum.

I am liking the red-glow lighting on that 720s though scratchchin

Yes it's Azores, great colour in bright light, when it's clean, but can look quite dark in some conditions....

Indeed not much to see in the 650. Keep in mind the actual engine is tucked down low, close to the wheels and the centre line for that low moment of inertia.
