Basically seen a job I thought I was a good match for, applied through the recruitment agency website, got a phone call about it and I was told I was a good fit and got given the company information.

A week passed and I emailed to see if there was any progress, at this point I was told the person at the company that was reviewing CV’s was on leave for a week, and would be back on on the 11th. I emailed again yesterday and apparently they still haven't had a response from the company.

While this is happening the job has went up on various different sites with abit more detail and listing immediate starts.

What’s the general opinion of emailing the company direct with a CV and missing out the recruitment company?
I just have a feeling I’m being fobbed off a little bit and this is a really interesting job which I’m eager to atleast get a proper response on. I have the relevant qualifications and experience so I don’t think it’s a competency issue.

You can try but the agencies T&C's with their client will still see them getting paid, first whiff that you are trying to circumvent them then expect to no longer be under consideration at the client side.

If you approach the client along the lines of 'xyz agency has sent my CV across, just wondering if theres any other info I can help with' will be a better approach and doesn't put the agents nose out of joint.

Just as a follow up, I went with the above approach and it worked! Bagged an interview for next week.

Thank you!

You're welcome and keep us updated smile I run an in house recruitment team and this approach we respond well to, just trying to chop the agent off at the knee and we start questioning integrity, especially as quite often agent delays are driven by crap comms from the client (my side).

I tried this with a job. I applied through an agency website but it wouldn’t let me add a covering letter. I had an idea of which company it was I was applying to so searched their website and found the same vacancy. I emailed them directly with my CV and covering letter and explained that I’d already applied through the agency. They eventually emailed back with just “We only accept applications through the agency and will not accept any CV’s or covering letters sent directly to us.”

Seems an odd way of going about it when the agency weren’t letting me provide all my information and funnily enough I never got a call or email from the agency or the company!

What did their website say about applying? Did it guide you to the agency ? If so then the response is reasonable, they probably aren't geared up to handling applications directly so funnel everything through a 3rd party, if however they have an Apply Here button then it's an odd reply.

From what I can remember it was the job advert and a Contact Us button. No mention on their website about applying through the agency.

If the Contact Us button was on the job ad and no mention that applications should be directed to XYZ then I'm with you, poor form from them.
