Hi,

I’ve just upgraded my personal iphone and it has now has the ability for dual SIM’s through an e-Sim.

I always carry two phones during the week, my personal phone and a work phone.

I’m thinking I can now maybe combine the two using E-Sim for my personal line and moving the physical SIM from my work phone.

I can get all my work functionality on my personal phone and security is fine.

My question is, how do the two SIM’s work in practice.

I’m happy for all data to be used from my personal SIM as I have more data than I can ever use.

However it’s calls and messages where I do want them separate. I don’t want to be calling a customer on my personal line. Likewise I want the option to be easily able to send and receive text/iMessages from both lines. Is this easy?

Can I also divert my work line to voicemail over the weekend and keep the Personal E-Sim on all the time.

Any feedback most welcome.

Thanks.

It works beautifully, it does.

You can separate calls and texts (you get to select a line beforehand).
You can use both for data, or just one.
You can switch them off individually.
You can set forwarding as this is standard in any phone.

I love how it works.

How do I dial voicemail on the secondary line?

Do I have to change primary/secondary lines in settings first?

You have two choices:

You can either go to the keypad, select the personal or work line, and hold down "1".

You can save the voicemail number as a contact, making sure it only ever dials out from one line or the other, and then access it via the contacts list or save it as a favourite.

Just found an issue and I think it’s an Apple issue.

When I use CarPlay, it doesn’t stick to the preferred phone number to call or text that you have chosen by each contact. Instead it uses the line that is the default data line.

Hopefully just a bug and Apple will correct with an update.

QUICK UPDATE - this isn’t a CarPlay issue actually, it’s a Siri issue. When you use Siri to dial a number (like you do in CarPlay using your voice), it’s Siri that defaults to the primary line and lays no attention to the line you’ve allocated in Contacts.
