2000 Range Rover 4.6 HSE

After a very long quest of searching a Range Rover, today I have finally bought one!

I present you my new 2000 Range Rover 4.6 HSE

















Until yesterday, I didn't have the P38 on my radar at all. I have been looking at 6 or 8 Range Rovers in the past couple of months, mostly being L322 and even a range Rover Classic.

Now for the good part:

• 1 owner; 105'000 miles (I love a one owner car!! It really makes the difference more often than not!)
• all documents present
• service book with all stamps (last one 19 months; 5k miles ago)
• new MFK just last week (Swiss MOT, good for 2 years)
• gorgeous colour (that I don't even know the name of)
• straight body work
• absolutely gorgeous leather interior, everything else is also clean
• 2 new rear airbag springs just fitted
• HVAC blender seems to work
• drives really nicely
• new front brakes at last service (5k miles ago)
• gorgeous 18" wheels with Michelin Latitude tires good for this season
• everything seems to work ! (hahahah, I know....)
• I paid £5.5k (don't know if this is a good thing yet...)

But of course there is no perfect Range Rover. So now for the bad part:

• the ceiling is sagging in the rear
• HVAC display with dead pixel (easy fix, I understand)
• one of the tailgate steel cables is broken
• electric passenger headrest needs a slight tap
• plastic trim around the HVAC needs repainting
• maybe I could list a very slightly worn driver seat bolster. Not the leather, only the foam underneath but really not worse than any other car at that mileage.

So, I see myself already updating this thread a lot
But I really hope I picked up a good one! fingers crossed....

That really looks in fabulous condition. There can be many P38s left that have been treated that well.

Lovely. Colour is Westminster Grey I beleive. Looks in good shape and probably a fair price for a 1 owner car. Looking forward to the winter photos and updates.

I will pick her up later next week (in Switzerland you need to get your reg plates from the police at your home canton and are thus not car bound).

Looking on the internet I think the colour is Niagara Grey.
Will have a look at the documents later! BTW i love how the portfolio smells exactly how a Range Rover should and how i rember the smell of my friends old P38.


List of things I intend to do:

Technic

• do a oil and filter change
• replace air and cabin
• do an ATF and filter change

Outside

• get rid of the light guards (rear ones apparently leave holes in the bodywork)
• fit the missing „V“ on the back
• re-darken the plastic with Meguiars ultimate black (other suggestions?)
• fit colour coded mirror caps and door handle covers
• re-spray in satin black or also back-to-black the grill
• maybe fit black-silver LR badges front and rear instead of the green ones (not sure if this is allready to naff.....
• replace three missing chromed lug caps
• fit Osram nightbrakers, or otherwise some very bright and white legal (!) Halogen bulps
• fit my prefered, high quality number plates holders with no on them
• touch up a minor key scratch on the bonnet

Inside

• fixing the sagging headliner. I‘m already contemplating removing it myself to get it recovered by a professional. Has anybody done this himself.
• fixing the HVAC display. Hopefully the £5 silicone rubber fix will do!
• replacing on broken tailgate steel cable
• getting a walnut center dash surround with GPS
• fitting a neat (factory looking!) double din touchscreen radio with bluetooth, handsfree and Apple carplay instead of the factory GPS.
• painting the worn console surround in satin black
• fitting a bur walnut steering wheel
• fitting a bur walnut gear lever
• getting wool floor mats and a rubber boot liner

Not everything on that list has top priority and some things like the steering wheel is an absolute luxury considering the existing wheel looks brand new! Also getting the right amount of wood in these is essential. Too much, like the HVAC/radio/instrument cluster covered in wood looks just wrong, imho.

• fixing rear parking sensors and/or maybe cameras with the new double din unit

For the trim, Gtechniq C4 could be a good bet as it lasts rather longer than other products.
