I have had 2 test drives in a 2016 BWM 118i Auto M Sport (F20). I love the car except for the ride which for me is hard and uncomfortable. As I am driving it I am tense and concentrating on imperfections in the road surface. It is on Contisportcontact runflats which are down to 3mm. I have also tried 118is in Sport and SE trim which had progressively softer rides but aesthetically I didn't like them

I am considering buying the M Sport car and changing to non runflats in the hope that it will transform the ride. Possibly going to non XL tyres as the XL presumably retains some of the stiffness and thus a firmer ride.

It is unlikely I will be bothered about a loss in high performance handling as I am more interested in comfort.

The alternative at the moment is an extremely good but extremely boring Golf - which I am not going to love.

I need some help here, please. I have had a couple of positive opinions on another thread but really need a few more, (especially positives) before risking the purchase.

I have seen a few people recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, what would be top of your list ?

Hi Michael ,my story bought a brand new F30 30d after 3 weeks I couldnt stand the run flats 18 inch Bridgestones , really crashy and the howling noise on certain roads was ridiculous, So purchased Michelin PS3s Non runflats and it was bliss like I actually had rubber under me.

After nearly 4 years of these I thought as I was handing the car back re PCP I better put RunFlats back on.With a good few months to go and with the miles I do I was worried to be fair........I did so much research really did tons and it came down to 2 Pirelli P zeros and the Goodyears you mention. The Goodyears won because they seemed a bit quiter re db

Got the Goodyears and as I come out the tyre place I really thought I had made a wrong move.

But have to say they are really good so good i would never bother going back and getting a puncture in the middle of Cornall and being able to drive back to my hotel was a real bonus.

Infact I think I prefer them to the Michelins cannot put my finger on why ,maybe not such a soft feeling with no crashiness and no Howling to go with it

Smashy, I am a little confused. I should have said that I have seen several people recommend non run flat Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3. Your post implies that the Goodyears you changed to were runflats. Were they ?

My research had found several recommendations of NON runflat Goodyear Ass 3's.

I have a set of Goodyear F1 Asymmetricals sat in my garage for my F11 Touring, I have heard very good reports on them not feeling like a run flat.

To be fair, I had Goodyear Excellence on my car and they were great too, first BMW I have owned in the last 15 years where I have not swapped them out immediately.

The Conti winters I have on at the moment are horrible.

I will try the F1 run flats in spring, but if I don't like them they will come straight off and non run flats will go on.

I had Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 run flat in 19” on my F31 335d and they were fine, quiet and comfortable (as comfortable as 19” tyres can be), Asymmetric 3 RFT are supposed to be better still.

EDIT: RFT

My E90 came with Continental Conti Sport Contact run-flats on it and they do seem to give quite a harsh ride.

I've had an E91 and a E87 123d with Pirelli P7 run-flats and the ride felt a bit better with those.

All 3 were on 17" wheels.

Whatever you do don't even consider Bridgestone Potenza run-flats - they seem to have no give at all if the 18s on my Z4 are anything to go by!
