Dsg help needed

I’ve bought a new scirocco when braking I can feel the car downshift in auto mode and can feel the engine braking. Don’t think this is normal. Would anybody be able to advise

It’s completely normal.

Why would it not be normal? It’s essentially an automated manual, and it’s doing what any (normal) person would do with a manual gearbox in that situation.

Source: 3 different generation DSG cars on the driveway right now.

Of course it downshifts. Even old autos downshift but you don’t really feel the engine braking.
If driving a manual you should downshift which saves the brakes and gives better car control.

You need proper driving lessons.

Yeah as already said it is perfectly normal and expected, I'm on my second DSG equipped car (2019 Polo Gti with the 6 speed wet clutch box) and it does it as did my previous car (2016 Leon 1.8tsi FR with the 7 speed dry clutch).

To highjack, how did you find the 1.8 Leon?

I loved it (apart from it being black and a 3dr, should have got a 5dr in a different colour), the 1.8tsi has plenty of go for daily driving, lots of low end torque, pretty economical on a run (mid to high 40s), handled and rode well, decent quality interior and well spec'd (mine was an FR Titanium with the winter pack and convenience plus pack). I almost just changed it for a new one with the 2.0tsi but got a good offer on the new Polo GTi and fancied a change.

I’ve had a golf gte in the past a couple years ago but only for about 8 months. That was a dsg and never felt the downshifts with that car. This one is a car I recently got and have usually always had manuals so was unsure.thanks everyone

I was taught to rev match on an Advanced Driving lesson. Doesn’t have to be a track but normal driving getting from A to B minimal braking reading road ahead etc etc.

If you have a DSG in 'ECO' mode it freewheels when off the throttle, so the GTE may have been set to permanently be in that mode to max it's eco credentials. I have no experience of the electrified models, but in a normal petrol ECO mode give you a terrible, slow to respond throttle response and after performing tests in the different modes over a few weeks on my commute I found that none of the different modes made any real difference to fuel economy on my journey.
