V12VS ( New old Stock )
Discussion
This is my first post here on Pistonheads and I wanted to introduce myself.
After following the market for a v12 Vantage for the last couple of years, I finally went and drove a used one that was local to me at our dealer. I knew I would love it and of course I did.
After leaving the dealer, I got the usual call about the car only this time the call was to tell me they had sold it shortly after I drove it. The manager then tells me about a brand new 2017 Vantage they have and tells me how badly he wants it gone and out of his inventory ? So long story short,, I make a stupid offer and he accepts it.
Wow, I love this car, and that v12 motor is just amazing.
I briefly had a 15 Vantage GT manual which I kept for a couple of years, but this new one is on a whole different level of performance and handling. You guys here already know all of this, but being my first V12 I know it is all the motor I will ever need and I cant wait to start logging some serious miles on the car.
Driving P cars for many years, I always wanted to get a really good front engined car and now I have the car that I always knew I wanted, but was afraid to pull the trigger on.
The car had about 100 miles on it and I only did a couple of hundred miles for my initial break in and bonding drive yesterday. All I can say is WOW,, that motor is amazing ! It just pulls like a freight train on steroids. I was also amazed at how quiet the car actually is when I was on my way home just relaxing and not driving it hard. Smooth, relaxed , and the stereo was a really nice suprise.
This is the last of a dying breed of cars and I for one am going to hold this car and use it as intended for many years to come.
When the world is full of EV's, I will be that guy out making noise hammering around with this big honking motor singing its song !
Glad to have an Aston back in my stable, and this one is going to stay .
I know,, pics,,, here is a crappy cell phone pic after getting it back in the garage yesterday.

Car has the Sportshift.. I had low expectations from everything I had read about the set up. It's no PDK, but when driven aggresively, it works quite well. I suspect I will never put it in full auto mode, but I never drive my GT3 in auto mode. I actually like having to pay attention to the way you shift as opposed to just grabbing gears with no thought or finesse at all. It just feels like a manual transmission that you shift without a clutch. I have not tried a flat footed shift above 5500 rpms yet, but will save that for when a I have a few miles on it.
Now that I have driven two of these cars ( one being the used on I test drove initally ), I dont think I would have bought a manual and would have preffered the Sportshift set up.

Congratulations, it looks like you had a cracking deal there!
Couldn't agree more with your description of the SportshiftIII gearbox being a manual with no clutch pedal.
Lovely pair of analogue cars in your garage, I lost interest in Porsche, they've grown too big, how can you remain exclusive producing nearly 300.000 cars a year, mostly SUV's on shared VW group platforms, the minority being sportscars and of those the GT3 and GT4 Cayman are the only ones who float my boat.

Congratulations! It's wonderful to see the demand and love of a big daft N/A V12. The last of a wonderful breed.
FYI, I removed the secondary cats on mine and fitted a ccharger switchable valve thing. It's still very quiet on a steady run with the valves closed, and deliciously boisterous if you want the Gaydon Philharmonic Orchestra unleashed.

There were several things that brought me back to the AM brand.
First and foremost was the motor. Unless I am missing something, the only other V12 choice out there is from Italy ? I just did not want to take that plunge based on cost and future maintanance.
Size. The vantage is still a small car by todays standards and I like to drive crappy little backroads. I knew that due to size the F cars would just be to big and I would just beat the bumper off of one.
Minimal tech. I dont like a lot of tech in a car. To me the Vantage has just enough, and not overly done. I am not interested in going through a cars program to take a drive and set different parameters. I like the fact I can just push one buttone ( the sport button ) and off I go.
I also was drawn back by the fact that these cars still have the involvment of people when it comes to the building and assembly. It is just something I respect being a homebuilder. I respect craftsmanship and I respect people who still work with their hands to build things. Even with the little imperfections you find in these cars, it makes me like them even more as it shows the hand built aspect. Nothing is perfect especially when built by people and I like that and find comfort in that.
I actually had to laugh as I was removing the 25 parts that were cobbled together to make the front liscence plate bracket, fasteners, shims, standoffs, etc.. all to hold a front plate that I will never mount.
There are a lot of people who own the latest , fastest and most high tech cars being made these days. I would bet that many of them would admit that at times they long for a car that is a bit more simple and with less tech. As good as the latest and greatest is, there is something to be said for a car with a bit less.

Welcome to the V12V/V12VS club. That’s a great post. I think that sentiment will resonate with many of the posters on this forum. I totally agree with your view on the tech. Whilst it’s nice to have all the modern stuff, I never feel short changed with what’s in my car. It does everything I want it to do. Unfortunately we live in a different era now and the market demands all the toys and screens etc. Enjoy your new car. It looks fantastic.
Best Regards
Minglar
