I've been searching for the modern equivalent of Sherwood Green Metalic which is Rootes paint code 114

I have found the following references for the same colour:

Dupont 8445LH
Glasurit RTS-114
ICI Belco PO31-2256
Berger 404.225

However, no one I've spoken to can reproduce these codes. The bodyshop which are preparing my car would prefer to use a water based paint and use Glasurit 90 Line.

If I can find a PROFI code they can reproduce the colour. In the meantime I've had to select a colour based on photos of the car in its younger days, but would much prefer to have as close to the original colour as possible.

Any advice gratefully received.

Matt

Do you have something off the car in the original colour ?
Take it to a paint supplier with a spectrometer and that should bring up the closest match

^^^This.

Or a motor factor that is able to do an eyematch - and will record their formulation so if you need more in the future then they'll mix from the formula.
I do a lot of caravan body work & the paint has to be an exact match so that's what I have done - the spectrowhatsits were OK but not as good.
I can recommend Sayers of Northampton who I use currently.

Unfortunately there is no where on the car that has the original colour, hence the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

You've probably already done this, but was it a colour used normally on TVR cars of the time or a one-off?
If the former are there other cars in that colour owned by people in any of the TVR clubs that would allow you to have a match done?

I had the following formula produced from a spectrograph from a member whose car is correct colour, but I don't know the manufacturer:

WB 872 - 53.3
822- 85.2
870- 43.0
803 - 45.4
837 - 27.2
851 - 4.9
892 - 1.6
842 - 4.2

Not sure if that is any help without knowing the manufacturer.

I'm not really sure what the issue is here?

Any decent bodyshop or paint supplier that know what they're doing will be able to mix the colour correctly from the manufacturer's original paint code (114).

I own a restoration bodyshop and we have 3 different mixing schemes (one of which is Glasurit as mentioned) and could go and mix you up Sherwood Green in 90 Line in 5 minutes with no issues...

If you are that set on originality though it would originally have been painted in a cellulose metallic that not many people would want to touch these days as cellulose metallic is a pig to paint compared to modern paints! I've recently had to do a 1965 Mustang Coupe in it, which funnily enough was a very similar shade of green, just tad darker.

Those are Spies Hecker Permahyd waterbased base coat paint mixing scheme numbers. Just need to find a factor that uses the Spies Hecker mixing system.
(The numbers after the - are the quantities of each tint required to make the colour, if it's grams that formula will give you just over 1/4 litre)

The difficulty might arise that your chosen bodyshop might insist on Glasurit but if mbwoy84 will mix & sell you the paint or let you have the formulation to pass on then that solves it.

That's great to know you can mix it. Are you able to provide a PROFI code? Alternatively, I could ask my bodyshop to contact you with a view to supplying it. Please PM me with the details thanks Matt

If their system doesn't show it then they should just contact Glasurit or their paint supplier that supplies them with the scheme (if they have one) or mixed paint and get them to contact Glasurit.

It's a colour they list, so not sure what the issue is. Anyone can see for themselves on Glasurit's website. On their Classic Car colours section just look under Hillman and there it is.

Personally I wouldn't use Glasuit, I'd use Lechler whether I wanted Water or Solvent based, but that's personal preference...

I found it on their website, but there is no PROFI code next to it (which I think the Body shop needs). I've sent them an email in the hope they can provide the formula. I'll speak to the body shop and let them know what I've found so far.

I suspect because of the age there is no colour chip for that colour so no computer code (I'm only going on Glasurit's website for that info) hence your bodyshop are 'The computer says no'.
https://www.glasurit.com/uk/colour-retrieval-color...

Perhaps they might like to contact Glasurit as per "If the CPS colour chips don’t have the shade you need, it’s worth taking a look at the Glasurit Color Online database (see Find colour code). Service mixing formulas produced by the Glasurit colour lab as a customer request are stored here".
If that's too much trouble for them you should go elsewhere.

I have a colour chip for that paint code, it is by Glasso. It has the colour on the front and on the back: Rootes
Sherwood Green Metallic
Manufacturer's Colour Code 114
Berger Ref. No. 4D. 2250
Docker Ref. No. CLG.58
Glasso Ref. No. 25697/M
I.C.I Ref. No. 2256
Hopefully this information helps you out.

Fortunately, another owner came to my rescue with a door in the original colour which I was able to match to a paint swatch.

I had a really helpful reply from the Rootes Archives with an ICI swatch with the formula on the rear which was:

Sherwood Green Metallic:
Clear Base PO17-404 50%
Permanent Green PO30-9905 36%
Black PO30-9901 7%
Permanent Blue PO30-9904 5%
Aluminium Bright PO30-9995 2%

There is also a slightly different formula they found as well
