I did run a plug-in-the-wall type of WiFi extender in the house for a while but never found the 'extended' range to benefit us much. Most likely due to this house having 2ft thick stone walls!
In the end I ran a CAT5 to a remote location and installed a Cisco AP541 access point. Cost around £15 used of ebay with del. Dual band with 3 antenna ports so I have the option of externally mounting one if I so desire. Works well.

The Wifi mesh solutions are 100 times better than typical extenders.
Yeah they cost a lot more but they do provide close to router throughput speeds throughout your house.
I have the BT Whole Home wifi, and although it has its quirks it's infinitely preferable to the range extenders I had in before.

I have always found range extenders not very reliable - I currently have a wireless IP camera set up with some mesh units and works surprisingly well with them not to mention the better Wi-Fi for other devices (this is with BT also).Plenty deals on just now I would imagine.

I tried an extender, primarily for my Nest Hello and to get WiFi in the garage for Zwift - it was useless. The Nest camera would regularly go offline. Yeah they cost a lot more but they do provide close to router throughput speeds throughout your house.

Like Bujinkhal I ended up opting for BT Whole Home wifi (or whatever it is n ow named) and signal has been superb. My Nest Hello & Cameras have been faultless.
There seems to be various options on the BT whole home wifi on Amazon, AC1200 & AC2600 whatever they are.
Black Friday (?) offers at the moment.
Reading the reviews, we have a Sky Q set up with a second little box in another room, will the BT thing screw that up?
(We currently use an older BT Extender and it's efforts are mediocre)
