B8 A4 Xenon Dipped bulb

Hi All,
Bit of diagnostic help required if poss. My drivers side dipped headlight goes off after about 1 min with the corresponding warning on the DIS. The bulb initially comes on then goes off and stays off, regardless of whether it's on Auto or not. Is this likely to be a replacement bulb or am I looking at a new ballast?
(btw I know I could swap them over but it's raining and would like too know if anyone has a quicker answer!)
