Lidl Sharp 50" TV Software update? Legit or not?

Our Sharp 50" TV we bought in Lidl about a month ago suddenly announced a software update, then went blue screen whist it did it.
No option was offered to do this at a more convenient time, so I wondered if it was a legitimate update or some sort of virus/hack or whatever.
Something about MStar collecting usage data? Is that normal?
P.S. Apologies for deleting and reposting the thread; I typed a dyslexic title first time round.
