Evening...

A friend has set up a website for a music festival and for some reason it just doesn't want to show up in google. For example lets say the website is "Festival on the Farm" (its not that but close) googling that doesn't find the website itself. In fact it's quite hard to get google to find it at all.

I am pretty sure its because the website it made with Wix and to me the HTML looks very very noisy and I don't think he has implemented the meta tags properly.

Would anyone mind casting an eye over it possibly?

Thanks
Rich

It has almost zero chance of appearing anywhere unless someone searches for something incredibly specific. It can take months for a new site to appear - even more so if its a newly registered domain name.

Has Google even crawled it yet? Tell him to get familiar with Google Search Console and Google Analytics for a start to see what , if anything , is going on.

Have they followed the SEO guidelines?

Have they submitted the site to be crawled by Google?

Meta tags don't make much difference these days, it's about the page content and links to/from the site.

I thought you had to pay google to be near the first page.

depends how unique your offering is and how well you write the code and get links into your site.

if your offering is generic then paying is probably the best way to raise your profile

They might want to consider a small daily spend on some google adwords, that should get it more than just visible.

Be very careful with Google Ads, its a very complex platform with more options than you can think of and the strangest terminology you can imagine - "broad match modifier" anyone?

Its very easy to cock it up and end up firing ads at completely the wrong set of users (in the wrong country even!) & wasting a lot of money in doing so.

Be wary of Google's "experts" assisting you in setting it up as well. They are "Geeks" that only speak "Geek" in my experience.

It's not as simple as creating a website and hoping it appears. He needs to follow SEO best practises and submit sitemaps etc. If he's not sure I suggest he speaks to an SEO specialist.

I'm happy to provide some pointers if you like as I build websites and provide SEO services.
