I see that the post started by Redex has been removed.

Is there any reason for this? I know they were no longer going to answer any questions, but there was still some discussion going on around the subject of fuel additives.

I suspect the people who paid for what can only be described as a complete dog's dinner of a campaign decided they'd sacked enough of the marketing department for one day. biglaugh

I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did, much like Redex itself.

I thought it went quite well, no one had asked any difficult questions yet.

So in the interest of trying to get some facts, rather than bold claims:

Has anyone out there done any testing with Redex or other fuel additives and would like to share their test methods and results?

Once we have the facts, people can make informed decisions on whether to use Redex or not.

I know 5th gear did a reasonable test, which actually showed some good results:

I'd like a comparison between Redex and a tank of branded Super unleaded.

An old mechanic I knew used to use Redex to clean crud and carbon deposits off valves and piston crowns on old carb fed engines. Take the air filter off, start the engine and hold it at 3,000 RPM, then pour a teaspoon of Redex directly into the carb air intake. It certainly used to produce some exhaust smoke, and lots of black crud would appear on the ground under the tailpipe.

No idea if it worked or not, to be honest. It certainly didn't seem to do any harm though. And it was fun! smile

It was a sponsored thread so was "owned" by Redex - they simply requested it be taken down. thumbup

I'm not surprised they asked for it to be quietly taken away, it was as bad a PR move as I could imagine them doing.

They should have known they'd be asked to prove their product isn't snake oil, to prove it actually works and they just refused. How could that inspire any confidence in their product?

An ill-judged move, that's for sure.
