little bit of background first ! i was employed as a shift manager on a salary in a cold storage warehouse, but due to ill health i was moved into the office as a admin clerk on same pay, move on a couple of years still in same company doing same admin work and ive been told that my salary is likely to be reduced to hourly rate , which is a lot less . so my question is can they do this as im still on same contract as when i started ?

Was it your ill health or someone else's that sparked the move?

Either way, companies can reduce the amount of money they pay you providing certain procedures have been followed (consultation period, etc) and that the circumstances are those that will be described in your contract.

They do have to demonstrate that there is good and sound reason too.

BV may be along at some point to offer a more informed view but my understanding is that whilst disability is a protected characteristic that makes it very difficult to do what you are describing them doing, poor health is not and their responsibility at least from a "being a decent human being" point of view, if not a legal one, is to try and find you a suitable role. That does not necessarily extend to paying you the same money as you were on.

I may be wrong, however; I've only got my observations of previous employers going through similar things with people.

When you say "a lot less", what do you mean as a percentage?
