Hi all, don’t post much on here but always browsing the forums.

Been getting some quotes to get my vacuum pump replaced as it’s pretty rusty.

This is for a 08 Gen2 997 C2S. My local dealer has quoted 3.2hrs labour to replace this?

The price for the part I’m happy with (£148), but this seems quite a bit longer than I’d have thought to swap out the pump? So looking for some advice if this could well be correct before I go ahead and book it in especially at the OPC hourly rates.

Well it's sort of a fiddly job, it's not that hard but you do need rather small hands or very handy and varied sockets and extensions.

I'm guess at 3.2 hours they are planning to take off a few things for access, I would have a quick ring around it could be that other places do it another way and it's a lot quicker, took me about an hour but I didnt remove anything, i did however lose some skin from the hands ....

I did consider if they would be removing some parts to do the job. That could well take some time if it’s the exhaust bolts as these like to rust as much as the pump cover...

I'm DIY'ing mine soon (997.1S), for access I'll be removing the rear bumper and possibly the off side muffler, then unbolting same side engine mount and dropping 2" for clearance, then R&R. Oh and airbox out plus any other obstructions to get to the top for vacuum hard line replacement, which might be 997.1 specific tbf. Time seems reasonable ish considering stubborn fixings etc as mentioned above.

I had mine replaced by OPC Guildford (997.2 T4S). It was covered under the extended warranty so I can't comment on the 3.2 hours, but I do know they went in from underneath and removed the exhaust (a good opportunity to change it while it's off!).

That's the car booked to go in now.

Unfortunately no warranty on the car to cover it. Had the approved used warranty for the first 4 or 5 years of ownership but been running without for the last couple. To be fair any work that's been done has cost less than the cost of the warranty so far, although previously I did have a couple of years where it was worth it when I had the warranty.

The pump on my 2007T has been picked up as “corroded and in need of replacement”. However, the Porsche warranty doesn’t cover it; I was quoted around £600 to replace it......

Sounds about right I’m booked in at just above that price
