Agreed. Lives in Dubai so highly unlikely to be anything substance related. In good shape to look at him. 59! No age at all. Sad news

One of the pioneers of modern British cooking.

Met him at his restaurant here in Dubai a few years back. Came across as a lovely gent.

He was a genuinely nice bloke from what I saw of him when I met him.

How very sad, far too young. I enjoyed his programmes and books; I'll cook one of his recipes this weekend.

Tragic frown

My Sister-in-law's Sister is the GM of the Grosvenor in Dubai and a very close friend of Gary. My brother has met him on numerous occasions over the years whilst on holiday and has always said what a lovely down to earth guy he is.

59.....Christ, I'm 56 and yet again it brings it home how fragile life is.

It is not known how he died. But in a now deleted tweet, Jamie Oliver said it came after a 'tragic fall'

Bloody hell, classic no class Jamie Oliver. Your friend dies and the first thing you do is tweet about it and include vague reference to a fall.

As he’s a celeb surely a heart felt sorry for the family and you will be missed would be appropriate.

Sad news.

That's quite sad. I grew up thinking he was pretty cool. Loved his hairdo.
