Full size 6 seaters

Ive just moved in with partner and inherited 2 more teenagers as well as my own 2. They are all tall & long legged. So we need a proper 6 seater, mainly to be used for weekend & holiday duty as I generally commute to work by motorcycle. Also, I hate MPV''s with a passion. I won't buy a bus. This limits my choice somewhat to big SUV's mainly but that list is small. Even the 7 seater Kodiaq is too cramped in the back row. Options look like older XC90, Disco 3 or 4 and left field option like the R Class Merc. Fuel costs & reliability issues put me off the disco as a 60k+ used buy. Any thoughts or other suggestions gratefully accepted.

A Land Cruiser would solve the reliability worries if not the fuel costs.

Both the (now discontinued in the UK) big 200 series V8 and smaller 150 have 7 seats. Both will be more reliable than anything else on your list. 25mpg is about your limit with the 200 series whilst a current model 150 should manage to average 30 - 35.

Look for an R Class with the 6 seat, rather than 7, seat layout. Surely the best option in this category. Loadsa room, an armchair for everyone.

Whilst the XC90 is a 7 seater, the third row on the XC90 may be a little small

Kind of, tried one out once and it feels more like a big estate than a van to drive. Most MPV's feel like vans to drive.

The R Class sounds like the best call to be honest. Whats the space in the back like on the LWB Shoguns?

We had a Landcruiser for a few days last year on holiday (Lanzarote). It was actually a decent car to drive, considering it's size. Big enough in the back for a teenager.

We've hired a VW Shuttle and Mercedes V-Class in the past. A lot more space if you can handle a van.

I owned a Ford Galaxy a couple of years ago, and the rear seats would be a bit cramped for a tall teenager, although they were fine for a 7 year old.
Probably be OK in only one teenager in the back, sitting a bit sideways. You don't want an MPV though.

They do, AMG did a V-8 version of the R Class Merc. Good for 6 adults and towing the petrol tanker you'd need to keep the thing on the road.
